Family time

In amongst having an unexpected couple of honeymoon days, which I shared in my last post, we have had FR's parents here to stay with us. They are always good value on the entertainment and guest front as they arrive, spilling gifts and food and bits of lace; vital pills are found rolling on the floor and there is non-stop conversation from morning til night. Great fun and just as it should be!

Impromptu picnics at the bottom of the garden
Everyone invited...or at least that assumption was made!

Grandmothers will be grandmothers - at least in Spain!

Eat it, hijo, it's good...go on, try it....just for me...you should, you must.

(He didn't.)

Romy and her gorgeous grandmother in the background.
Meals all together (oops, with milk bottle on the table too!)
Favourite spot for early supper together.
Preparing the ground.....

for a temporary pool and sunbathing area!

Everyone very happy with the arrangements.

And my sunflowers came out to celebrate.

The house seems very quiet and empty now they've gone. But I do believe they'll be back before very long. I think they liked it here.

We liked having them.

  1. It's clear from the photographs, from the way in which you write, that you all enjoy each others' company.
Yes, I just bet they'll be back.

    1. Yes, Helen, I have been very lucky with my in-laws. They have been wonderful to me from the outset, even when I could do no more than smile politely during the non-stop conversation...not understanding a thing! It's lovely to see how much FR loves his parents, even when they drive him quite mad with their scatty and idiosyncratic ways...hoping our children take note!

    1. Thanks, Annie. The table was already here but we'd love to extend it so we can all sit there under the old almond tree. I am sure your sunflowers will be all out - mine are - and I think yours were a bit further on than mine.
You'll be glad to be home for a rest!

  3. So, the sunflowers bloomed....brilliant. It seems like 2 minutes ago you moved in, and planted them. Romy looks so beautiful in that photo with her gorgeous granny, and life looks as if it has been pretty damn enjoyable with you for the last couple of weeks. It is great that you get on so well with FR's parents. They sound like a lovely couple to have around. Jxxx

    1. Thanks Janice - yes, all the sunflowers are blooming and most are much taller than me, but this little one was just so sweet.
We've had a lovely, if rather hot and limiting, summer. During the normal hours - 12 - 8 o'clock - it's too hot to do much. I came back from some shopping with Ruy at about 2pm today and FR was basking like a frog (do they do that?) in the little pool as it was the only cool place to be. His parents are a hoot - I defy anyone not to love them absolutely.
Enjoy your last few days in Caunes - hope the weather is holding out in the UK for your return.

  4. Oooh - scatty and idiosyncratic ways - we've got plenty of those & we should be putting on a good show for some of the tribe tomorrow. Along with the usual huge feast at short notice, which, I maintain, proves I'm not quite as silly as they tell me I am.

    1. They are the best ways in my opinion, Nilly - I'm sure you'll put on a great show! I imagine your feast will be amazing, effortless (apparently so) and without doubt, delicious and memorable.

Here's to living dippily and happily! Have a wonderful day.

  5. A large part of having a beautiful family and home is to be able to share them with others. As when you Mum visited our children learn such a lot from their grandparentsand it certainly changes the dynamic of the home.

Sadly our parents have long since passed on, although Rhiannon and Tom remember special times with each one of them with fondness.

    1. You're absolutely right - I love the changes in family dynamics when you drop in a different member or two. I remember the huge change in family dynamics when we went from two children to three...Romy's personality was very defined from the start. I think she gets it from her grandmothers - both of them!

I've lost my grandparents but lucky to have my parents and FR's too - I think there's always a special bond between grandparents and grandchildren and I'm so glad mine have theirs still - building up those special memories.

  6. Oh, those to die for views again! I'm not surprised your parents-in-law like it in your new home. Looks like you all had a great time :D

    1. I promise you, we don't take it all for granted, Annie! Every day, at every hour, there's something a little different to appreciate. (We get some interesting smells sometimes too!)
We had a great time - they will be back for sure.

  7. What a marvellous snapshot of real family life, Annie - all the generations together and enjoying each other's company in such beautiful surroundings and weather. Perfect! They'll be back without a doubt.....

    1. Thank you Perpetua - I hope they'll be back lots of times too! The only trouble is they are such a long way away...I spoke to my mother-in-law today and I know she finds it difficult to be so far away - not just from us but from her youngest son too, who is in Mallorca. It's no good me telling her she's lucky that her sons have picked such lovely places to live!
