Adventure Time!

Just before my own adventures with Janice and Mark, as a treat for Ruy's birthday, we went to an Amazonian Adventure park, one of several in Spain with this one being just outside Granada in the stunning scenery of the Natural Park of the Sierra Huetor.

The drive alone up through the pine forests was a treat in itself.

Once there, Romy and Ruy had an absolutely brilliant time. Mateo had intended doing it but wasn't allowed on the adult course without one of us two going with him...I ruled myself out on the grounds of any number of reasons and FR has such a damaged knee that it would have been silly of him to even try. So, in the end, Mateo acted as support and encouragement to the other two and took himself off on a couple of nice long walks.

The photos just speak for themselves....

Fitting the harnesses...

Instruction time

And they're away...

Stepping out...

Getting ready...

Concentration...

More concentration..

The 'wheeee' bit!

Moving on to the harder stuff...

Team work..

Not the best sight ahead for Ruy....stranded explorer about to be rescued....took about fifteen minutes to get this poor chap down after he'd missed his footing and fallen.

One of Romy's favourite parts

This is quite high up now...

My explorer daughter...must be the youngest (and tallest) 9 year old to do the course.

This was probably the most difficult - Ruy absolutely up to the challenge.

Walking in the air.

At the end, both Ruy and Romy were quite exhilarated. Romy reckoned it was the 'best thing ever'. And we finished off the day with a drive into the National Park, where we collected some of the biggest pine cones ever, and had a lovely picnic...a day to remember!

Anyone looking for a great place to go with children around Granada - I can highly recommend the 'Aventura Amazonia' near Viznar.

  1. I am so glad you have managed to recover these photos. Romy told me what a great time she had, but it looks so much more than the zip wire trip she told us about. I hope Mateo enjoyed his day too, but there is no doubt that this will be a birthday that Ruy and Romy will remember for a long time...especially as they now have these brilliant images to help remind them. I, like you, would have resisted any urge ( being honest, there would have been no urge) to take part. The role of photographer, and family history preserver is much more important ! Jxxxx

    1. Both of them enjoyed it but I think in some ways, it was more of a challenge for Romy and she came away really rather pleased with herself...she may have told you!
Part of me would have liked to have a go but some of the other parts warned me against it...I can be heard offering much support on the videos that FR took. Lovely photos though and I'm so glad we've got access to them!

  2. They're wonderful photographs...and the children were clearly having a great time...but all that height and the space between supports gave me the habdabs..

    1. I'm delighted with the photos, Helen - it was a stunning spot and a great day out. The habdabby bit for me was seeing a boy just in front of my two missing his footing and ending up dangling helplessly from the ropes. He made the most awful fuss but it was more fear than any damage - I was most impressed that Ruy and Romy just kept on going once he'd been extracated by the monitor.

  4. What a fabulous adventure. I would have been the photographer, for sure. Someone like me doesn't belong at such heights, but, what fun Romy and Ruy have had. Hope Mateo found it somewhat exhilarating to watch - and something to look forward to in the near future.

    1. It really was a great day for them - Mateo was philosophical about his choice and perhaps next time, he won't dismiss something til he's actually tried it...
I think we will have to go again - and I shall take my camera. And that will be my excuse for keeping my feet on the ground!

    1. Well, Annie, I was quite tense until they got they got the hang of clipping themselves safely onto the various wires...and I came away very proud at their adventurous spirit and determination to keep going.

  6. Oh, fantastic, Annie! The landscape, the photos and the super challenge the adventure itself gave Ruy and Romy are all just wonderful. Our grandsons would love it. :-) Mind you, I'd be securely on terra firma with you throughout as I almost get dizzy just standing on a chair......

    1. I certainly was incredibly proud of them - and the scenery was stunning. I think most children would enjoy giving it a go. I wonder what happens to us as we get older...? Axxx

    2. I'm the exception here. I've had no head for heights from as far back as I can remember, just as I've always had a poor sense of balance. It's feet firmly on the ground for me. Sigh....

  7. Glad you recovered the photos Annie. They're great and the kids clearly had a wonderful time. How brave they are...heights terrify me.

    1. I was able to look at these photos with my parents on their absolutely HUGE TV screen - they looked very impressive and the heights were just as scary! Axxxx
