Expressions of satisfaction and delight

I'm leaving up to you to decide on what noise or sound you make to express your satisfaction and delight - and what makes you make that sound.

For me, today, it's YEEEHAAAA!  It's WOOOOOOOOOO! It's also yeh!
And for no other reason than I am alone. On my own, with nobody with me.

It's such a rare treat that I am celebrating with a long iced coffee and uninterrupted access to the internet.

I love days like this where there seems to be such a lot to do in a very short space of time - an early start; arrival of small friend of Romy's; departure of husband to Granada; boy kids leaving at fifteen minute intervals to get to school or play football before school starts; girls and me setting off a little bit behind schedule but arriving just in time; quick whizz round the block with Darwin; jump into car to get to doctor's appointment - c h i l l   w i t h  b o o k whilst waiting - whizz back towards home and drive in ever widening circles around cash machine then abandon car with hazard lights flashing and dash back three streets to extract cash; whizz home; run in, drag dog out and into car; drive to next village to man who is going to remove all Darwin's hairy coat and leave him shining and clipped and sweet-smelling.....

...and then, driving home, that wonderful, smug, can't quite believe it feeling hits me

I'M ON MY OWN.
WOW.

And, fighting the temptation to come home and clean the house, which is what I tend to do whenever I get a moment to myself because there is always something else more important when everyone is here, I have decided that after I have written this entry, I will go up onto my lovely hot roof terrace with my iced coffee and soak up a little sun whilst reading my book.

So, there you have it. I feel I have it very good right now.

(Though in precisely two hours, the whole mad dash thing starts all over again in reverse, plus I will have four hungry children to feed...but I'm not going to think about that yet.)

Have a nice day.

  1. Hello Annie:
And, what do you do for your next trick, Annie?!!!! Just even the thought of all this frenetic activity leaves us breathless, clearly you can rival Wonderwoman for your ability to juggle so many plates in the air.

Enjoy your moment of peace and calm whilst it lasts. You deserve it!!

    1. It was a lovely couple of hours of calm before it all started up again. Whilst I'd go up against Wonderwoman anytime in plate juggling, I wouldn't look as quite as good whilst I did it....I don't plate juggle with any style (or waist) and my legs only just reach the ground!

  2. I remember the bliss of days like that. Enjoy!

I don't think I'm ever literally on my own at home these days ... there's always the dogs even if all the people are out.

    Good book!

    1. I think it was the absence of Darwin that had the greatest effect! The children are usually at school and FR often out doing things - but no Darwin really made me feel totally liberated from demands on my time and attention. It was bliss - short-lived - but bliss and I enjoyed it. Axxx

  3. You did amazingly well to get all that done.....and still have some time for yourself. It is a wonderfully self indulgent feeling isn't it. I'm rushing round getting things ready for my 8 visitors tomorrow....and incredibly, I find its nearly all done...so I, too, am going to wallow in some quiet reading, or maybe a bit of crocheting. Enjoy the moment, I intend to. J xxx

    1. I do confess to finding I had less time that I thought...and when I went up onto the terrace, I discovered the line full of washing and when I brought that in, I had to peg the next lot out...and suddenly it was time to make lunch - but I did all these things in my own time and it was good. Heaven help me if I had 8 visitors descending shortly!! As it is, I have just five children in the house now - and the dog and C.
Hope you enjoy your moment of peace too - though that anticipatory peace is some of the best sort, isn't it? Axxx

  4. When The Men depart for their working trip to San Jose I just go 'oof'! Two and half days of running things to my timetable...having time to talk to friends on the 'phone...and not cooking lunch!
    Enjoy yourself...

    1. It's great when loved ones 'go away' for a while - and I think it is about having one's own timetable to follow, rather than fitting everyone and everything in to a joint one. It is also nice when they come back but I could have spared them for another hour or so...

  5. For a minute there, I thought all the whoops of joy might have meant you had found your dream house.

    1. It doesn't take much to make me really rather happy and I have wondered what my reaction will be when the moment arrives that we have found our house...I suspect when it happens, you will HEAR the whoops, not just read them!!

  6. Oh, I feel your joy, Annie, even if the peace and quiet didn't last long. I can remember so well how I felt just the same when the children were still at home and I got a short break. Now I'm like like Fly and relish the very occasional time when DH is away and I have the house all to myself for a day or two. :-)

    1. It's been a good day, Perpetua, for a whole host of reasons. I do feel I've packed a lot in. Darwin clipped is gorgeous, FR came home from Granada with a huge bag of asparagus and we've had our friends' children here all afternoon. And now, FR and I have just returned from a wonderful concert of flamenco (singing and guitar) at the local theatre. I should sleep well tonight. Axx

  7. Good God, Annie, you are like a whirlwind! I hope you enjoyed a little bit of quality time with your iced coffee and didn't spend it doing something else!

    1. My quality 2 hours shrank to about 10 minutes - but they were a real quality 10 minutes and that's what counts. I love busy days, especially when they're as fun as this one has been but couldn't cope with one every day! I am relaxing now, most unusually with a gin and tonic, so this is probably my last coherent post before I fall asleep. Thanks, Axxx

  8. I love your expression of satisfaction and delight - beats my foot stomping :)!

  9. It was good - though short-lived - but I'm a pretty good foot stomper too! Glad to see the dissipation of all that frustration. Axxx
