Another spot in time





I know that some of you kindly read and voted for a little piece I wrote for a Travel Blog competition last month. I can honestly say it was something I dashed off in about ten minutes so I didn't give it much of a second thought. I did it because someone else in a local Community group on Facebook had entered and was touting for votes to promote her 'bit' of Spain. I felt obliged to promote my 'bit'.

It's on the Near and Far blog.

Although I didn't get anywhere near as many votes as the most popular piece, I hadn't realised that it wasn't votes that really counted. There was a panel of judges who awarded the prizes, with the reader's choice also getting a prize. Well, readers, I came 'Second Runner Up', which I guess means I got 3rd prize. I was absolutely delighted when I found out! And I get £100 voucher to spend on 'LateRooms' hotels. So I have that to plan and look forward to.

Just thought I'd share this and thank those of you who left me a comment.

Now....where shall I go with my voucher?

      Thank you Perpetua. I have to admit, I was absolutely delighted when I got the email...but I haven't got the voucher yet! It was just so nice to think that out of all the entries, my piece got noticed - I shall make Alcala famous yet!!

      You are too kind, Janice. There were lots of entries so I'm really very pleased to have my 2nd Runner Up status. The last thing I won for writing anything was a Road Safety Competition when I was 11...so obviously the seeds have always been there!

      As a result of this competition, I have briefly contemplated a career in travel writing...but probably not! I have yet to receive the voucher but I quite fancied a bit of pampering somewhere in Granada. We'll have to see!

      Now that IS a good idea, Elizabeth - thank you very much. Shame the voucher won't stretch to very much but at least I am near some wonderful places - maybe a night in Granada!

      It was quite exciting, Nilly. I haven't decided where to go but I suspect not too far away - I have still to explore Granada and I fancy a night out there. Axxx

      Don't feel awful, BtoB! Your vote wouldn't have swayed the judges anyway and one person got over 400 votes! I'm happy just to have had my piece noticed. Axxx

      The voucher has now arrived and must be used before the end of the year - so will have think fairly quickly - so fast time goes by!
