November blues

I realised this morning that we have hardly been anywhere as a family for ages...maybe a day at the seaside over the summer....but since we moved into our house, we have rarely set off in the car all together.

So today, we decided to 'go out' for the morning. We didn't need to go too far to find a picturesque spot.

The reservoir near Colomera - just twenty minutes drive away

Created between 1982 and 1989 and now offers fishing, water sports and swimming.

Can you see the heron centre left? I just managed to catch it as it flew off...

At the chiringito by the lake...perfectly placed chairs!

November....23 degrees and all is well.

Time for a drink...

Yes, seeing the tapas before we ate them would have been slightly more photogenic...we had five drinks, three plates of fish, some aubergine slices, a big mixed salad and a basket of bread...for 10euros.

Exploring the reservoir

Creating some amazing and comical echoes and sound effects....

Hugely peaceful

We came home a couple of hours later, stopping off to buy a panettone from the supermarket...delicious with coffee. My thoughts feel a long way from bonfires and toffee just now!

My November blues....what colour are yours?

  1. A blue November is enticing - sort of dismal grey here.
What a lovely spot for a day out, ending with that wonderful bargain all for 10 euros.

    1. As you say, it was so enticing we went out!
We went to the reservoir once before on a beautiful day, but before the bar was open - although we're not 'bar' folk I have to say it was a divine spot and incredibly good value! We may even go again...

  2. I just love your photos, Annie. Those blues are wonderful as is the entire landscape. There's something rather lovely about reservoir lakes in my experience. We have a huge and beautiful one not far from us, but as Rosemary said, it's dismally grey and wet here and about 10C, so I'm snuggling up indoors today.

Is all food as cheap in Spain? I'm open-mouthed at those prices.

    1. The photos take themselves, Perpetua and mine aren't particularly good - it really was breathtakingly blue yesterday. I know there are mixed feelings about reservoirs and how some of them have been created here in Spain, but this one is lovely and the waters always look so clear and clean. One of my favourite haunts in England was a reservoir - I shall have to post about that one too - but it didn't have a bar quite like this one.
As for the food - in Jaen and Granada, tapas are served free with drinks and can be anything from a plate of bread and cheese, to local stews to fresh fish. These particular tapas were over and above what we often get - we were brought 6 freshly grilled fish after we'd eaten our original plates of tapas! From the reaction of Janice and Mark though, I'd say eating out in Spain is considerably less than in France!

    2. It most certainly is....in fact everything seemed much cheaper.....especially washing powder, floor cleaner and dishwasher tabs !!!!! x

    3. It's a long time since I've been in France...but it must be quite cheap to live in Spain as we manage well enough on relatively little. Tapas are such a great idea too....Ax

  3. 23C sounds good although it was a perfect sunny Autumn day here too until the rain came. Fortunately it has been pretty mild so far, so no central heating yet!

    1. We all agreed it was a spectacular place and day. In the evening, we went out to some friends and came home - not particularly late - in a most chilly 2 degrees! (But clear, clear, starry skies.) And my husband lit a fire when we got back... Axxx

  4. Those blue waters looked very enticing....and it sounds a great family day out.

The price of food in Spain stunned me coming directly from France.

    1. Our friends went swimming in it during the summer (though I am sure the various illnesses they suffered afterwards were related...) but it is supposed to be OK to do it. Not that I was tempted yesterday. Sitting and looking was good. And walking around in the peace afterwards - fortunately the music of the bar didn't carry to far!
The prices were a pleasant surprise to us too....tapas come free but we hadn't expected to get quite so much! It was cheaper than eating the same thing at home for sure...

  5. Looks like a wonderful place to enjoy and share with your family, so lovely to do things together having fun and creating memories. This morning I caught the most beautiful sunrise, stunning colours but the blue skies certainly help lift anyones mood.

    1. I'm enjoying getting up as the sun is rising too, Chrissie - the children get up at about that time and we've had some amazing skies. I defy most people not to feel better in weather and colours like these...

  6. I am not complaining about the grey Yorkshire skies ( especially as when I look out of my little office window, the sky is mostly blue at the moment.....clouds moving in fast though ). I have decided that the weather is...whatever it is..... however, those blues really do look gorgeous, and getting everyone ( was it actually everyone ? I notice a couple of people missing from the photos.) out for the day must have been lovely. Although I can understand how it has happened ( not getting out together). Staying at Casa Rosales must be a pretty fulfilling thing to do...and basically, none of them have wanted to venture far at all since you have been there.
I am hoping for clear blue skies over Liverpool all next week, as I'm staying there, and the docks and the sea gulls all look so much better in the cold and crisp, with gorgeous blue skies.......but, I will not complain if it is not like that...honest. Jxxx

    2. Hi Janice...actually, the only one missing is Darwin. The new legislation in Spain means he has to have his own seatbelt...which we haven't got yet, so he was guarding the homestead! Everyone else was there - and we all went out again together in the evening...to a 50th Wedding Anniversary...so we didn't need to cook a thing all day!
I agree that the weather must do as it does...but when it's lovely, I don't want to take it for granted. It's good too, to be able to dry my washing in a couple of hours in November out on the line!
Liverpool is pretty amazing most of the time...to be honest, I've never been there in sunshine...so do get some photos if it's blue skies!
Have a great time whatever the weather. Sure you will!

  7. I loved those family days out we had when the kids were younger and wanted to come out for a day with us!! Even better if drinks and snacks were on offer. What a fantastic price. Somewhere worth going back to.
The scenery isn't too bad either!
Enjoy and make the most of these special times x

    1. My eldest prefers not to join us if he can help it Gaynor, but I think this is just a phase - he definitely enjoyed the fish tapas! The other two are much more gregarious by nature so hope we can have many more years of family outings. All of them are happy to stay at home too...which is nice! Axxx

  8. What a lovely day out and the prices are amazing for all that food! Lovely photos too. Our temperatures are still around mid 20s at the moment and our skies very blue too. I'm afraid we never seem to go out anywhere together. My husband works all summer so I never see him, and now he's trying to get work outside done ready for winter. However, I have decided that as rain is forecast for Tuesday, work will come to a standstill, so I'm determined that we will go out somewhere. It won't be so good in the rain but it will be a break nevertheless.

    1. Blue skies certainly help, Ayak. It was lovely this morning again but now, it's turned chilly and a bit grey. I don't know that we're expecting rain like you - but when we do, we'll stay cosy inside!
It's nice to go out from time to time - I'm just glad I don't really mind that much if we don't. There's always plenty to do. It will be nice for you just to have Mr A at home for a change! But you do deserve a break together. Enjoy your day whereever you end up.

  9. Grey and sad this morning in Yorkshire - the shortening daylight hours don't help either. Still, there should be sunshine tomorrow - though not at 4.30 am when we have to get up! No peace for the wicked & pension-less!

    1. Grey often feels sad, doesn't it? It's gone from blue to grey this morning too as a cloud descended over our little village. Hope you had sunshine and that your 4.30 rise started a good day for you both. Who needs peace when you're wicked? Axxx

  10. It is rainy and gray here today, Annie, but . . . the colors are spectacular this year. Just coming down on road is like being dipped into candy corn. The leaves are starting to fall with quite flourish, and our world here is russet and orange, red and yellow.

  11. You make is sound wonderful - even if it is grey and rainy! I love autumnal colours even if it's not exactly my favourite season.Axxx
