Living up to their names...

Despite my garden looking like a bombsite - now and for the foreseeable future - the roses are blooming and it's wonderful to have little touches of colour around.

Casa Rosales.

The pink ones outside the computer room window.
The Clematis and Rosemary also rather abundant this year - ie. unkempt!

One of the red ones - camera colours might be playing up a tad!

I did prune this one quite harshly but it's gone crazy!

This one came from Sam when she left - the colours are so pretty,

This is the yellow, sweet-smelling bush that is in the middle of the garden.
The lovely colour doesn't show well here, so I took a close up....

Yellow from a distance and when fully open, but tinged pink as they are in bud and opening.

Not out yet, but dozens of buds on this white bush.

And this one I bought for 6 euros in a little pot last year...it has really flourished and flowered almost through to December.

FR decided - on a whim - to change the intended location of the swimming pool. We had a couple of tense days when he ignored my pleas to rethink or at least concentrate on finishing one job before starting the next. I lost the battle. Which is quite a surprise to me. I don't usually. But I lost this one.
I think in his panic to push home his plan, he allowed Juan the Digger to dig too deep a hole and leave it not wide enough....

I am not best pleased with things as they stand. FR has a lot of work to do before I am
convinced his action has been right....

It was our village fiesta this weekend and I am at least relieved to have heard FR speaking to Juan, asking him to return and adjust the dimensions. Talk about digging your own....

Photos of the fiesta to follow. Needless to say, a good time was had by all and the food was excellent this year.

  1. Lovely roses....and it sounds as if second thoughts on the pool have prevailed!

    1. The roses are even better today, Helen. And I will have to resign myself to the pool's new position. Axxx

  2. I'm pretty much in the dark about this as for some reason only a couple of the photographs will load, but they are ones which show Casaloha Rosales living up to it's name beautifully!
The pool wouldn't be my first choice either, but I suspect the children agree with FR. Some you win..

    1. Oh no! Don't know why that is, Gaynor. You can be sure that if the pool is ever completed, I will post plenty photos! Axxx

  3. Your roses are beautiful. Annie - and my sympathies on the hole digging. We have a few projects around here that have taken such turns, though they turn out okay in the end.

  4. Your roses are glorious, Annie, and the pool will be the same eventually,.even if it isn't quite where you would have wanted it to be. Men.... ;)

    1. It's not such a dreadful dilemma really, is it? We have a lot of land and we are going to have a pool. Things definitely could be worse! Axxx

  7. Your roses are looking fabulous. Your pool ... requires imagination ;)

I'm sure it will all come right in the end.

    1. Hi Annie - I should have waited another few days as the roses have gone from fabulous to spectacular! The pool.....has not. :-(

  8. The roses are lovely. We have a couple of bushes in our garden but they don't seem to thrive well here. Hmmm as far as the pool is concerned, I sympathise. You only lost this battle...I lose every one when it comes to my husband deciding on a "plan". I've given up and just let him get on with it.

    1. FR is just not good at planning - and I love to plan. That's the problem, and although I haven't answered Nilly yet, I know exactly what she means. I know I don't nag. I communicate. My husband doesn't! And when I try to 'talk about' what he intends doing, he goes into a bit of a panic and thinks I am nagging. He doesn't like to admit he simply doesn't have a plan! Or at least, not one he can articulate. I have to say that he does usually do a good job in the end, though, so I'm learning to give up too!

  9. Oh dear - a familiar dilemma. To nag or not to nag! Mr N only discovered his handyman skills about 3 years ago when he decorated his first room - one wall at a time, from stripping, filling holes to final coat - only then to start on the next wall! However, the room now looks so beautiful that I've vowed to let him continue DIY-ing in his own sweet way. (He says doing it this way stops the job becoming boring.)

    1. I do so approve of Mr N's method of decorating. It seems the exact opposite of FRs method - which is to turn everything upside down first and then do bits here and there....as for finishing....! However, I agree that it's not useful if our interest is interpreted as nagging. I deny that I nag but I do like to get a straight answer sometimes!
