In trouble...

The old-fashioned kind. The one where your mum catches you doing something you shouldn't. And gives you a telling off.

Fortunately, my mum has given up doing things like that to me these days. However, my sister hasn't.

She had told me she didn't read my blog much but sod's law has it that she read recently. She saw that I was blogging when I should have been packing. Eeek - I got a bent ear. She was tempted to let rip in the comments box but refrained - (shame, I'm sure you'd have enjoyed it..) but she gave me what for over SKYPE.

Everytime we've moved house recently, she's helped out. She knows I am sitting here - typing - when all around me are things that need packing in boxes, things that need throwing out, things that need dismantling. She knows. She's right.

She told me some home truths and said I must show her on SKYPE video what I have done and what I haven't. So don't tell her I'm writing now. I'm going to start work just as soon as I've had my coffee. But I just needed to register how silly it all seems.

This is how it should be done!

Now I must go before my sister sees this and tells me off again. (Though the bottom line is that I really don't manage too well without her.....)

  1. I am sure that blogging about procrastination and then blogging about being told off for blogging about procrastination is entirely good for you. I have no doubt that with your multi tasking skills, all will fall into place, and anyway, I am expecting a blog, detailing the emotions as well as the practical aspects of move day itself. ( Its ok, you can leave it until you are in the new house, with internet connection all organised, it doesn't have to be a live broadcast as the move itself takes place )
Thinking of you amongst all those boxes, remember to stop for cups of tea, lots of love Jx

    1. Yes, Janice, I feel good. My procrastination is almost always followed by a bout of extreme energy and box-packing. I know I should do one room at a time, but I prefer to skim across the top of many rooms and then go back for the second layer at a later date. I've skimmed all rooms now and am circling round the next layers. I was interested that you asked for an 'emotions' side - just think 'rollercoaster in extremis' and you'll be getting close. And I'm not sure how long we'll be before we're all connected up - that's FR's area!

Drinking gallons of tea - a friend is bringing more Lady Grey from the UK for me tomorrow! Hurray - all will be well.

  2. Thanks for your visit and comment. I agree moving house in that photo is without doubt the way to do it LOL. Take care and hope you get all packed soon. I have moved house so many times and between 7 countries so I know how frustrating it can be. Diane

    1. This should be a relatively smooth move but it's still a drag having to pack things up only to take them 7 kms in order to unpack them again. I hope we stay here a good while.

      Thanks, Axxx

  3. I don't have a sister but I was pretty bossy with my two younger brothers. I'm sure they've forgiven me (although I still do it a bit)

Moving is bad enough, BUT you have to have distractions from all the packing up and organising, or you would go mad...well I would! So don't feel bad about procrastinating. It'll all get sorted. xx

    1. Ah, Ayak - I was the bossy big sister. But in comparison to my little one, I seriously lack common sense and practicality. She knows this and whilst I don't think she's seeking revenge, she gave me what for the other day.

I can't help the procrastination so it's important I don't make myself feel bad about it, isn't it! So glad you understand. Axxx

  4. You have to have such a good relationship with your sister!

    1. Helen, she is wonderful even when telling me off and I love her to bits. Axxx

  5. I think apart from sharing a name and an age, we are a bit alike. I need pressure to do something and there's nothing like deliberately ignoring an approaching deadline to build up the pressure. I have friends who even plan their holiday packing for weeks - I leave it until the night or morning before. Either way - it gets done.

    1. Yey! That's what I thought when I first read your blog - this is a woman after my own heart in so many ways. Bet we could while away many an hour chatting about all the things we had to do. I quite enjoy that build up of pressure - and the 'kaboom' once I get launched into the task.
As you say, it always gets done.

  6. I'm a 'leave it to the last minute' kind of person. It all still gets done!

Perhaps it's because I haven't got a sister to keep me on the straight and narrow. Happy packing...

    1. Glad to know another one, Gaynor. It will all get done, I know it will. My sister doesn't try and keep me on the straight and narrow usually but she does know I push it a bit tight at moving time...Axxx

  7. Hmmm - as an only child I always longed for at least one sister(or brother). I've even got a blog post hatching on the subject. Now I'm not so sure...

    1. Nilly - that my sister can tell me exactly what she thinks is the reason I love her so much. She did it with her usual humour and skill so that I wasn't in the least offended - it just felt like she knew me absolutely and wasn't going to let me kid myself! Siblings like mine are pretty rare...I think I have sung her praises in the past and I'm sure I will do it again in the future. And if you could have had a sister, then you'd have wanted mine! Axxx

  8. I have a sister like that, Annie, who doesn't let me or any of her sisters get away with things and she's very much the youngest of us. :-) I have a mental image of her watching us all as we were growing up and learning a LOT about human nature in the process.

I'm another who can work well under pressure and am always amazed that my mother-in-law has packed her case completely a week before we go on holiday when I haven't even started to think what I'm going to take. Don't worry, the packing will all get done, but in the meantime you do occasionally need a sit-down and a bit of blogging to keep you sane.

    1. I think you are lucky enough to have a sister appropriate to just about any occasion, Perpetua! I think the younger ones definitely watch and learn. My sister and I are very different but very close and as we've grown older, we've grown more alike and even closer. Which is, of course, wonderful.

As you can see, I'm having a sit down - and a cup of tea - and then it's the lounge bookcase that will be boxed up next.

  9. I was going to type 'wouldn't it be wonderful if we could carry our homes about with us like that', but that would mean we'd never have the fun of fitting into a new house!

And if you just read this ... shouldn't you be packing? ;D
