Tut tut, it looks like rain...

I love Winnie the Pooh. I love the part in the story where he disguises himself as a little black rain cloud in a cunning plot to steal honey from the bees. And I love that Christopher Robin is asked to walk up and down with an umbrella to emphasise the likelihood of rain falling from that little cloud.

Last night, we drove to Granada airport - the sweetest little place with stunning views of the Sierra, if that sounds quite right for the description of an airport - to collect FR from his trip to France. He's had an exciting and exhausting time there, dashing between Rouen, Paris and Beauvais. They saw the first night of Edward Bond's play 'Existence', in French, performed at the theatre in the Louvre and for the first time in several years, FR spent time with Bond himself. The group he was with had first met last year in Budapest and at some point in the future, they will all meet in Spain. As I am the 'Administration Team' for FR's company, I will have to organise the event. But we'll deal with that one when it gets a little closer!

I was thinking about Winne the Pooh. We've booked a van to remove all our things for Wednesday this week. FR is at Villalobos with a plumber right now, sorting out the boiler and sorting out a couple of piping issues (so I can get my dishwasher plumbed in as soon as possible!) So it's all happening. (That's not meant to sound like I didn't believe it before....)

I am pretty sure that our bed will NOT go up the stairs to our bedroom. We have a large iron bedframe whose top and bottom is almost five feet high and there is no way that the clearance up the stairs is big enough....hmmm...I posted this problem on Facebook this morning and had two very sensible answers. One, buy a new bed. Two, change our bedroom window to french windows, put a balcony and take the bed frame in through that. I like both options. In the meantime, we'll put the mattress on slats and sleep on the floor....

I checked the weather forecast (getting to the point at last and sincerely hoping that my sister is herself far too busy to be reading my blog again) and it says rain. I did a visual check....

Threatening
And I know that many of you in the UK are suffering from too much weather - particularly of the white, cold and slippery sort so I'm not complaining. Even if it rains, I know it won't last long.

Oh look, another cloud!

Off to pack up my kitchen now. Though may just walk the dog before the deluge arrives.....

  1. Growing up I noticed that children seemed to have been brought up on Winnie the Pooh or Alice in Wonderland...but seldom both.

We woke up in the clouds this morning...99% humidity, 22 C...a soft golden light with blue tanagers flying in and out of the trees.

I still can't belive that we can sit up in bed and see all this outside the window.

    1. Could be true - I discovered both for myself and although I enjoyed Alice in Wonderland, I loved Winnie the Pooh. Two of my three haven't read Alice in Wonderland and I don't remember reading it to them, but Mateo says he's only read Alice and doesn't remember Wine the Pooh. I am obviously
      an inconsistent mother.

Sounds amazing to wake up in the clouds - and I've had to look up what the birds are - and they are gorgeous! 99% humidity would finish me off though. I'm so grateful that we've picked a place with such a dry climate....except when it's raining of course! (We've clouded over now and the forecast looks like it will be right before the end of the day.)

    2. That was while we were in the cloud at 5.30 am....it's coming down rapidly as the sun burns through...and no, we couldn't cope with that either, it's why we live up in the hills and not down on the coast....

  2. Bother those forecasters! They're usually right nowadays- at least in the short term. :-) What I wouldn't give for a blue sky like that, Annie. It;'s been so cloudy for so long here. Sigh....

The problem with your bed reminds me of when we moved back into our old house when I retired. In the time we'd been away we'd bought a new wardrobe and it absolutely wouldn't go up either staircase. We put it downstairs, renamed it the armoire and it now stores our linen. :-) I know you can't do that with your bed, but I wanted to reassure you that you aren't the only one. :-)

All the best for Wednesday. Hugs Pxxx

    2. Thank you Perpetua! It's the house we like and we'll manage the furniture as best we can. And yes, it does help to know it's not just us!

We're chilling out today - we've all had a very busy week and feel we're on top of things now, so, as the forecasters were absolutely right and we now have rain, we're watching a video and eating popcorn (well, Ruy and Romy are; FR is having a siesta, Mateo is writing a novel and I'm blogging!) Then probably on Tuesday, it will be the great unplugging - of TV and computer until as an yet undefined moment.

    1. Yet another indication that we are of one mind, Annie!! I used to sing this song every time it snowed - and was humming it gently to myself earlier today without really stopping to think why! Of course, all my UK friends are posting snowy photos. Axxx

  4. From freezing cold snow-bound Yorkshire I'd like to say,
"How sweet to be a cloud, floating in the blue..."

    1. Guess you'll just have to keep Tiddly Pom-ing for the time being....
It certainly looks an impressive snowfall from the photos on Facebook from friends in Yorkshire. Hope you're safe and warm.

  5. Shame about the bed, but I thought those two suggestions were good ones too.

We've had a beautiful blue sky today too. Most welcome after the last couple of rainy days.

    1. FR is now saying he's going to get the bed in...one way or another! We'll see. It will look nice and it's a bedframe I had specially made for us when we bought our first house together, so I would rather like to keep it.

It is now raining and looks set to stay raining for the next week - which is a bit frustrating - but sure and sure, it will be wonderful when it stops!

  6. I remember you having the frame made. I thought it was a very adventurous and creative thing to do at the time.... always having bought beds from very boring places myself. If FR thinks he will get it in... I am sure he will. I am so pleased and excited for you all for the move. Not long now Annie, and those roots you have wanted to put down for so long, will have their very own bit of ground in which to thrive. Lots of love Jxxx

    1. It was Karen Ardley's partner who made it - fancy you remembering! It matched the windows of the little converted chapel we bought - thinking we'd left it too late to have children!!
The van is booked for Wednesday and we plan to stay there from that point onwards though we have no pressure on us to be out at a specific time or day, which is great. Thursday and Friday are holidays anyway, so we will be staying put probably until Sunday, when, if it's nice, we'll go and see the last procession of Semana Santa.

I can feel the roots sprouting - they've been dormant for a while but it seems very appropriate to be moving in Spring.

Thank you for your good wishes, Janice - not long til the last C session for you. I think of you often and always with admiration and lots of love. Axxx

    2. I also remember you carpetting your new home with some kind of sisal matting...perfectly suitable for 2 maturish people, setting up a childless home together.....oh, and then came the news of pregnancy number 1....and I often thought of some poor child scratching his /her chubby little knees as s/he learned to crawl in your house. I cant remember how you resolved this one..... insisted Mateo walked on 2 feet as soon as he started to move....recarpetted....or moved.
And yes... last chemo session is on Thursday.... 6 high dosage radiotherapy sessions, over 6 consecutive days, will start 2/3 weeks later...not long now ! Lots of love for Wednesday and your first few days in the long awaited home. Jx

    3. Janice, in my defence, the sisal flooring was already down - it was the first thing we thought of when I found I was pregnant. We moved when Mateo was just 1 - he wasn't an adventurous child and didn't walk early - I wonder why!

All the very best for your last session. I'll try and post some cheerful moved pictures as soon as I can. Axxx

  7. My parents laid coconut matting in my bedroom when I was born. My knees are still recovering.
Anyhow, I am very jealous of your sky, I am sitting by a blazing fire, but I'm still cold.
All the best for the move!

    1. Many thanks, Scarlet. We're moving now to tiled floors which are not good for sitting on, so may be investing in a few more nice cosy rugs to sit on. (We have sofas, honest, but I love sitting on the floor). And of course, lying in the garden under that blue sky will be rather nice too! Axxx
