A decorated circle

Yes, I'm still tangling like mad. So much so that I thought I'd post one on my 'life' blog, seeing as it seems to have taken over my life at the moment. I sat up quite late last night and then spent most of the miserable and snowy (yes, SNOWY) day in front of a log fire - well, behind the washing that's in front of the log fire - doodling away.

This is on grey card and so has a slightly more serious look to it...

Just so you know I'm not wasting my time doing anything frivolous....

  1. WOW! It's fantastic.

Glad to see that your time is being spent productively. How big is the drawing?

    1. Thank you Gaynor - it is actually a tad smaller than appears on the screen - probably about 10-12 cms across. I haven't tried a really big one but I bet it could look quite good in giant size! Axxx

  2. Amazing how washing and dogs take precedence at a fire....I'm so glad that here, even in the rainiest parts of the rainy season I can finish drying on a ceiling rack on the balcony.

    Frivolous...? Never!

    1. It was SO chilly, damp and snowy here yesterday that we were all jostling for the fire...glad to say we have a bit of sun now. My two youngest spent the day making animated cartoons on their Nintendos....and I have to say they were rather good! It's quite nice to have a totally lazy day sometimes. Axxx

  3. Doodling suggests something unplanned but these designs must be mapped out before you start as they are so precise. Please don't tell me that you just sit down and produce something this perfect with a compass and protractor as I will feel especially inadequate.

    1. I drew round a plate for the outer circle but the rest is all freehand and as the mood took me, Annie. If you look closely, you'll see I draw a set of pencil lines inside the circle and then just fill each section with a different pattern. I'm hopeless with a compass and if it wasn't something I could do flexibly, I wouldn't bother.... Axxx

    1. I have to report that the sun is shining again today though it's still cold. In nearby villages, there was lots and lots of snow - across Spain, in fact. As long as we're warm indoors, I don't really mind and at least the children were able to go to school today and I can catch up!
Glad you like the drawing. Axxx

  5. You really have a talent for this Annie. It's certainly not frivolous.

I always imagine your climate being similar to ours and find it hard to think of you with snow.

    1. Thank you Ayak - I can assure you I am surprised as how these turn out everytime!
I think we're not quite as south as you - plus we're over a 1000m high in Alcala la Real so we do have very cold winters. And, of course, sometimes snow. We're pretty close to the Sierra Nevada - though not quite that high! Axxx

    1. Thank you Sophie! I think you'd love Zentangle - many a quilter has turned her hand and clever eye to it with incredible results. Very simple, very soothing, very enjoyable. Axxx

  7. Wow that looks brilliant, what a lovely way to while away some hours whilst cosy by the fire. We certainly need our log burner, its really windy and cold here, but at least a nice blue sky

    1. Give it a go, Chrissie - it's very therapeutic and relaxing, though maybe the fire helps that. It's sunny here again today and warm in the sun - we can see snow on the mountains around us still too. Hugs, Axxx

  8. Gulping in awe! That, dear Annie, is absolutely stunning!

Snow in Spain does not shock me too much. I recall the shock of my first winter in southern Greece: wind, rain, sleet, and snow. And everything was so grey.

Keep doing what you're doing. And I hope the washing dries quickly.

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely kind words, Stephanie.
The snow has gone from our immediate vicinity but left some pretty white tops to the mountains in the distance. As you clearly know, it's not always sun, sun, sun and we are about two hours from the sea!
Washing all nicely dried, ironed and put away now - Monday is always busy! Axxx

    1. Thank you Zoe. The grey card was lovely to draw on and I'm pleased with the result but need a better white highlighter....I'm limited to dots with this one! Axxx

  11. Coming late to this, Annie, so I'm hoping the snow hasn't returned. I dry our washing next to the wood-burner in bad weather too.

This is seriously stunning work and I love the sense of depth and texture in what I know is a two-dimensional work of art. I'm starting to understand why you're so hooked. :-)

    1. No more snow, thank goodness but we've had damp and miserable for a few days...now a bit of sunshine again. We've heard all the dire warnings for the UK and so do think ourselves lucky weather-wise.
Glad you like the drawing - the shading is a fascinating part which I love as you really seem to turn 2D to 3D somehow! Axxx
