Juan came back whilst I was out teaching on Friday afternoon. He dug some more.
This is how our door looks now....
|
From the inside... |
We had wanted to bring the outside down so that we didn't have two steps down into the kitchen. I would have been happy with ONE step down into the kitchen, but Juan and FR decided it would be nice if it were all level.
|
Obviously, we need a new door anyway. |
|
But at the moment, we have to jump out of the house and scramble up a good metre to the outside loo/washing machine room/dog food store/vacuum cleaner store...most useful things store actually! |
|
It bothers me slightly that the house seems to be held up by a car jack.... |
Just need to get it all sorted out by Wednesday - storms are predicted.
Juan and FR strike again. At least you don't need a cat-flap now. And when it rains you will have a lovely swimming pool really handy: just in front of your door : )
ReplyDeleteOh Hita - you may well jest with me! You have no idea how worried I am that your last words will prove to be very true...I am so hoping the predicted storm on Wednesday fizzles out before it reaches us! Axxx
DeleteI'm picturing Juan and FR telling you not to worry and that it will all be fine, while looking worried themselves. Fingers crossed you're sorted before the rains come!
ReplyDeleteJuan couldn't give stuff, Annie! FR is the one who's a tad concerned...Axxx
DeleteAh...the car jack!
ReplyDeleteSo useful!
Isn't it just - makes me feel so safe....Axxx
DeleteHello Annie,
ReplyDeleteWe are rather alarmed to say that the whole scene rather resembles a World War battlefield at the moment, complete with trenches.
We are sure that all will be well........after all, we did put men on the moon!
Oh dear - it really looks bad, doesn't it? I had hoped for positive reassurance from my blogging friends....but if a task as big as putting men on the moon is required, then we may have bitten off a bit more than we can chew! I shall focus on that phrase 'We are sure that all will be well...'

So....will there be steps up to the outside loo/utility bit ?....will there be a sort of valley between the garden gate and the front door ? will the whole garden be dug out, revealing a undiscovered basement under the house ? has Pippin come to terms with the new landscape and how are the chickens ? Its Monday now..... rain is falling here in Caunes, I'm keeping everything crossed that your forecasted rain doesn't get to you on Wednesday...you do not need that ! Jxxxx
ReplyDeleteYes, Janice - maybe a couple of shallow steps up to the outside loo from the house and the same at the other side onto the patio bit in front of the lounge. We are going to raise the path infront of the house quite a bit again - there will be one step down into the house. It needed to be excavated down first, though, daft as it seems to me....
DeleteThen as you walk towards the gate from the house, there will be another couple of steps up - I hope they'll be really wide ones (from side to side, I mean, not back to front) with a shallow rise. It will be quite flat from house to pool area - and this is the key drainage area for when it rains - then it is raised again towards the fence facing the house, where my iris and roses are (sorry, were...) Hope you can visualise all that! I'm getting there!

There isn't such a word as "forecasted" is there ! jx
ReplyDeleteNo - forecast does the job, but I know exactly what you mean! Axxx
DeleteAre the storms still on the way...? I hope it's nothing like what hit Bosnia/Serbia.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Sx
Not wanting to tempt Providence just now....definitely got wet weather predicted for the next couple of days....hopefully nothing too bad! Axxx
DeleteI'm a bit behind. Hope it hasn't rained and the house is still standing !
ReplyDeleteIt rained a bit, B2B - but not too much - and the house is still standing as I type! Axxx
DeleteGosh, I hope the storms didn't materialise, Annie, or you might have had a water chute to your kitchen door. It's going to be great when it's all finished. :-)
