Moving IN!!

We've been living here in our new house for just ten days. Ten blissful days (without internet, television or telephone!) and it feels like we've never lived anywhere else. Now we have our first link to the outside world. I am so looking forward to sharing my new home with my friends - and hope that some of you will be able to come and see us in it before too long.

I prepared a blog post a few days ago about how I feel about it all but it's on the other computer - which isn't yet connected - so today, I'm just going to post the pictorial evidence of our long-awaited moving on!

Our old living room looking a bit barer

The boys with Dave - what would we have done without him? The best, most cheerful help we could have asked for!

Bye bye number 27 - don't worry, Darwin, you're coming with us.

Here we are with the first van load of things.

Part of the ruin in the garden - oh what plans we have for this!

The shepherd bringing his sheep across our land - better than a lawnmower!

First signs of spring as the rain stops momentarily....

The ruin in all its 'glory'......

And the views beyond.

Ignoring the electricity tower, which we can't do anything about, this is a nice view of the house from the ruin.

Mateo's mattress arrives

And is delivered into his room.
Mateo's room is the lowest part of the house. Look at the thickness of the walls!

Darwin exploring his territory - the view from Ruy's window.

The sun didn't shine all day, but it did come out when we had finished unloading the van.
Best time for a beer - cheers Dave, you deserve it!

Wednesday evening, time for swingball!

My kitchen - Wednesday evening.

Still a lot ot do...

But showing potential.

Thursday morning! Wake up Ruy - lots to do!

Can't believe I got my sofas in after all....

The lounge - Thursday morning. Fire and candles lit.

Thursday afternoon, kitchen taking shape...

The weather has been unkind this week but by Sunday, we HAD to barbecue!

And by Sunday, I HAD to bake a cake. A carrot cake, and rather nice it was too.
Can you see my natural style is 'clutter'...

Saturday, one week on...stunning sky looking east.

The Den - a favourite spot where a great deal of playing has already taken place.
Ruy's room is on the left.

Ruy's room looking a bit more lived in - taken today, Saturday.

Romy needs some shelves...still some unpacking to do.

And yes, my beautiful bed went in and seems more comfortable than ever before! It was handmade for me so I didn't really want to have to part with it, or keep it in storage forever!

And FR is totally happy with his new red wheelbarrow.

We're all happy.

We are no longer moving on.
We have arrived.

  1. So, does the blog change its name ? I got goose bumps when I read your last two lines. I am so pleased for you Annie. This has taken so long, and it is clearly going to be a wonderful home. The fact that the bed went in ok is clearly a sign that it was all meant to be. Please send me the address, so I can write properly, but in the meantime, just enjoy every minute of getting things straight. I cant wait to hear your plans for the ruin. Love J.xxxx

    1. I have been trying to think of a good new name, Janice - it feels like it's time to stop moving on.
Strangely, now that we're here, time is of no importance at all. It doesn't feel like a long time and it doesn't feel like a short time...it was just the passing of time.
I'll send you our address - though one of the disadvantages of village life is that mail is delivered to a now unused bus stop that's a few minutes walk away - still, we have to go there to put the rubbish out too!!
Thank you - hope you are feeling really, really well. Axxxx

  3. As the bed and the sofas went in...it was clearly meant for you!
You really sorted things out fast, too...your system works!
Have a wonderful life there, all of you.

    1. You are such a darling for commenting on my system - I shall show it to my sister! Actually, we have got our important things sorted very quickly but I know that things that are still in boxes today may well be still in boxes in several months time.
We are so enjoying the sound of birds in the morning and the distant sounds of sheep and horses. Today the sun is shining down and we get it alll day - great for spring but I shall be glad to see signs of sprouting on the vines for some summer shade!
      Thank you, Helen.

  4. Thank you for sharing your move, your family and your new home with us. It certainly feels like this is your home and not just the house where you live.

I might have missed something previously, but is your new home in the same area? Will the children still attend the same schools?

I wish you all love, some good luck and happiness in you beautiful home.

Looking forward to finding out how your life continues to 'move on'...

    1. Thank you Gaynor. Yes, we do feel like we're home now. And it's a good feeling.
We're just 10 minutes (by car, the only real downside) from our lovely town, Alcala la Real, so life goes on as normal for schools, work, shopping and friends. The journey is a winding road through olive groves, crossing two bridges over lovely little streams - though they are rather more than that at the moment - so not exactly a tiresome journey.
More thoughts to follow - it's lovely to be back!

  5. The house looks brilliant, so much potential, so much character, it was so worth the long time looking. I hope you will be really really happy there. K xxxxxx

    1. Thank you Karen, though I confess it was a heart purchase, not a head one!
It felt right; it is right; it's got potential but it's not perfect. We can live with its imperfections and develop the potential. It's very much a family home and we are all very happy with it and in it.
It definitely has a very kindly character!

  6. What a glorious setting, Annie! You will never tire of those views. The house was obviously mnt for you, as witness the way all your most-cherished possessions have found their place in it. Super photos of a momentous few days. Wishing you all much happiness in your new home. P xxx

  7. Wow what a beautiful house Annie. I love your kitchen. There are similarities with us...an old house in our garden which we have plans for if we can ever afford it...and the views...and we have an electric tower in front of our house too.

The photos are lovely, and you have achieved so much in a short time. Everyone looks so happy. Enjoy your new home xxx

    1. Thank you Ayak. I hope my husband is as good at building walls as yours! He does have the same, rather eccentric approach to things, so who knows what I shall end up with (though he's not keen on cats, so I don't think we'll get the cat feeding table!)

We feel so settled already that I am sure we stand a very, very good chance of being very happy here. I do hope so.

  8. Please say "Ya boo sucks" to your sister 'cos you got it all packed up and moved. If anything is still in boxes, that's where it's meant to be. (I still have 5 unpacked and I moved 16 months ago). I'm so glad your bed fitted in. I considering suggesting a bloggers holiday house swap, yours looks very swappable.

    1. Of course, what I didn't show was that we had to go back about ten times to the old house to pick up extra bits...but we gave ourselves three days to do that and it all got done. And yes, some things will have to stay in boxes for a bit longer but only things that don't matter.

I too am very glad the bed fitted - I like to get new things sometimes but I don't ever want to part with my lovely bed.

I think bloggers house swap is a very, very good idea...though I want to spend a bit more time in mine before I go anywhere else! But yes, an excellent idea and one I've already shared with another blogging friend in Asturias. (Or, a bloggers get together in a range of lovely locations?)

    1. We do feel to have arrived and that we're no longer moving on, Nilly. It's a very calming feeling - bordering on smug, I have to say...
New name will emerge, but not sure when, or what!
