Who lives in a house like this?
With little nooks and crannies to keep items of sentimental value but hasn't yet got round to their artful placing?
With a row of hobbit-like candle-holders made yesterday by FR out of olive wood. Not yet finished..how long will that take, I wonder?
With a stack of white masks that have graced our windows, mirrors and bookcases without any of us knowing who put them there....
With an old barometer that belonged to her grandpa - who tapped it gently every time he passed it. Today, on its cool, indoor wall, it's showing Fair/Very Dry and 20 degrees - pretty accurate, I would say.
With a huge wooden bowl filled with shells collected over the past 17 years from various beaches, now sitting on the lovely, wide window ledge.
Where the buds are opening on the end of the vines, ready to form a shady pergola as the summer months approach.
Where an as yet unidentified climber begins to spread its way across the whitewashed walls
Where a previously unnoticed little cherry tree has put forth a fizz of blossom.
Where a little tiled table provides a lovely view of the house (and all the work that needs doing in the garden!)
Where a busy little pair of birds have built their nest in the outbuilding.
And where some of the garden work tools are little works of art in their own right.
Who lives here? Why Darwin, of course!
It so so beautiful Annie, and becoming more so every day, as you arrange and rearrange your treasures....which are all fabulous....shells, candle holders, the barometer, the masksand the magnificent red with white polk dot shoes. It is all so you. Darwin is going to be very happy
ReplyDeletein a house like this. I am hoping to get to see it all in the not too distant future ! Jxxxx
We have a very strange collection of 'treasures', as you might imagine, not one of any value to anyone else. I promised Romy I'd never give her shoes away - she outgrew them very quickly! Darwin is a bit moody right now as it's hotter than he likes it and although he wants to stay in the garden, there aren't too many shady areas just yet. We're working on it. And we shall have him clipped very soon too.
DeleteIt will be wonderful to see you here - as soon as you want! Axxx
Lovely post Annie. I am so enjoying your settling in, and looking forward to more photos.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Darwin will be as happy there as you are.
We may have to re-designate Darwin - not as a dog, but as an anteater. That seems to be his strange pleasure at the moment!
DeleteThanks,
Axxx
Every picture shows the difference between a house and a home. Darwin looks so much like Jake, it makes me laugh.
ReplyDeleteHi Annie, yes, I think the same everytime I see Jake too! He's super scruffy just at the moment and his fur is dreadfully matted so I think it's getting time for him to be 'pelado' or peeled, as the Spanish say! Just lightly peeled though - we were traumatised when he had a close shave last year.

Your new home is not just beautiful, Annie, it has character! I'm so glad you're having this lovely weather as you settle into your new surroundings, even if Darwin looks like he wishes he could strip off as easily as humans can. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's only now that we are assessing with our five senses, exactly what it is that we've bought, Perpetua. This may sound strange but we were definitely operating on intuition when we bought it. It has character in spades!
DeleteDarwin is suffering a bit in the heat but at least the house is cool. By choice, he'd be outside but it's 30 degrees today - he needs a haircut.

Lovely to see your little treasures in their new home, the nooks and crannies makes it all very special and the fun of anticipation in the garden as it springs to life and shows you its secrets
ReplyDeleteThe nooks and crannies are a bonus feature of the house, which we love anyway. I couldn't be more delighted at the little bits of character that it has. The garden won't be a treasure trove, but we're working on it for future years...Axxx
DeleteMay I hire Darwin as a house stylist.....he has things just the way I like them.
ReplyDeleteHe did a lovely job of 'decorating' the kitchen floor this morning...I can't see it would have been quite your colour.
ReplyDelete(Not his fault, poor lamb. They've been putting weedkiller on the verges and I think he imbibed some. He's much better now he's got it out of his system.)
Axxx
Never mind..I'm sure it would have gone with my colour scheme...I hope he feels better.
DeleteI can imagine you sitting on that little tiled table pondering all the possibilities of your new garden.........I love all the nooks and crannies and the row of sweet hobbit-like candle holders.
ReplyDeleteI can see you're going to enjoy living in your new home,
Kim xx
I'm certainly looking forward to a little pondering time and the tiled table is the place to do it, Kim! We are certainly enjoying every day so far - long may it last!
DeleteThank you.

What fun you are having - I love a bit of character and history - in all things not just houses!
ReplyDeleteSomeone suggested that our little village is in a very good position re. lay lines and negative ions. There has to be some reason we are all so happy. Could it be that we are really enjoying our new home and everything that's going on here? Well, I suppose it could be! Axxx
DeleteAnd of course, I meant ley lines - not lay lines...Ax
DeleteThe gorgeous Darwin and and a whole bunch of lucky people.
ReplyDeleteI just know that house is going to be long term perfect for you all :)
It's still early days but we really are loving every minute here, Annie. Darwin is definitely happy and we feel extremely lucky. It is our house, Annie, it really is.
